30 year old Verone Mankou is an entrepreneur and innovator from Congo Brazzaville credited as creating Africa’s first tablet. The tablet trademarked the “Way-C” was conceived under his company VMK also based in Congo. Launched in 2011, the entire design and architecture of the tablet were created in Congo-Brazzaville.

Hello Friends! Another week another innovator. In my last post I started a series on institutions that honor innovators and inventors accross the continent. Today we highlight a new award ceremony created to reward the continent’s innovative thinkers.The African Innovator Award (AIA).
Based in Accra Ghana, the AIA was concieved this year by the team that organise the TedxAccra events. The AIA award was set up to honor innovators in different areas including technology, agriculture, education, healthcare and energy.Watch Emmanuel Addae, one of the team members introduce the award here.
Applications/nominations for the award show began in September and finalists are currently being shortlisted. The first ever award ceremony will take place in April 2016. Can’t wait!
